HSE Health promotion is offering new training’s agreed with the Department of Education on the following:

Minding your well being – for Primary and Post Primary Teachers

Know the Score – Substance Use Training – Post Primary Teachers 

Primary Training

1. Health Promotion HSE – Wellbeing Through Physical Activity (1 Day)

The aim of the training is to support you to create opportunities for physical activity throughout the school day. You will get three HSE resources: ‘Get Active in the Classroom’, ‘Get Your School Walking’ and ‘Active Playgrounds’.

This course is very similar in content to our previous course ‘A Whole School Approach to Physical Activity’.

Substitution cover is available for this course. Substitution claims can be made after the course through the On Line Claims System under the code ‘Professional Development 1’. Only primary on the Department’s Payroll will be able make claims. 

Travel expenses are not available for this course.

A maximum of 2 teachers per school will be allocated a place on this course.

When a course is full we will generate a waiting list, unfortunately we may not have the resources to service all waiting lists, and so being on a waiting list does not guarantee a place on a future course.

 

2. Health Promotion HSE – Minding your Well being (1 Day)

This new training will support teachers to explore strategies for supporting their own well being with a particular emphasis on good self-care practices.

The learning objectives of the training are:

To improve participants’ understanding of a positive approach to mental well-being and how it can be actively applied for their own wellness,

To improve participants understanding of the need for good self care practices and how they can build them into their day to day lives,

To understand the potential benefits of challenging their own thinking habits and supporting positive thought processes for better well being,

To understand what builds resilience for day to day living and how the regular use of mindfulness and gratitude practices may support their mental well being,

To prompt participants to further explore the area of mental well-being and self-care beyond the training, to enhance their own skills and knowledge for increased and long term benefit.

This course incorporates a universal approach to the promotion of positive mental health and wellbeing for everyday living. It is not of a clinical nature and does not encompass the identification, symptoms or treatment of mental illness. It is not intended as a personal therapeutic training and participants will not be expected or invited to discuss their own personal mental health experiences.

Post Primary Training

1. HSE Health Promotion and improvement health and well being – Know the Score

Know the Score is a resource for addressing substance use in Senior Cycle. The resource contains 14 lesson plans addressing alcohol and drug use suing interactive and experiential teaching methodologies. this training will support teachers to deliver this programme in their school. This resource was jointly developed by the HSE, the Department of Education and the Drug and Alcohol Task Forces.
