Services and Supports available during the Covid-19 pandemic for Young People & Parents

As you are aware, with the current developments regarding COVID-19 a lot of services, supports, programme’s and activities have been
postponed or cancelled, so below we have listed a range of services/supports that are available at this time.

 

South West Counselling Centre 

Based in Killarney, South West Counselling Centre (SWCC) have been providing a low cost, affordable counselling support to the community for the past 25 years. In line with current HSE and National Public Health and Emergency Team best practice in dealing with the Covid-19 virus, they are no longer providing face to face counselling appointments.

HOWEVER, in order to continue to support the community they are now moving to telephone counselling for clients and employees who need counselling support, 064 663 6416.

They are currently developing this telephone service along with their Mindful Parenting Workshops which will be provided online to adults and parents.

For more information, to make a referral or to self-refer please contact South West Counselling Centre on 064 663 6416. One to one telephone counselling appointments will then be arranged with an experienced Counselor in confidence. Keeping connected and reaching out by telephone is so important at this time of crisis in our community!!

Kerry Diocesan Youth Service 

Kerry Dicoesan Youth Service (KDYS) is a Youth Work Organisation that was founded in 1971. With 5 Centers across Kerry in Tralee, Listowel, Killarney, Cahersiveen and Killorglin, KDYS provides a wide range of activities and support for all young people including; fun activities, recreational opportunities as well as services that assist young people and families to respond to challenges that they may face growing up in Ireland.

Following the advice and guidelines issued by the relevant authorities in regard to Covid-19 the 5 centres are now closed but they are now offering their services and supports either by meeting young people outside or by providing 1:1 and group work suppors through telephone contact using WhatApp and other technologies advising ”we are just a call away”.

Community Based Drug & Alcohol Projects

During the pandemic Community Based Drug & Alcohol Workers are providing their support services to their clients in the community.  This is particularly significant given that residential addiction services and AA groups are not taking any new clients and/not meeting.

The Drug & Alcohol Workers will provide support and information for young people who are experiencing problems in their life because of drug and alcohol misuse.
