Mastergeehy: Strengthening Families Programme (For parents and their children aged 12-16 years)
This Strengthening Families Programme (SFP) is an intensive 14-week family skills training programme for families. The Strengthening Families Programme is designed to allow parents and their teenagers build new, healthy parent/teen communication skills that build up positive relationships with families. These new skills encourage good behavior and help parents and teenagers handle peer pressure and make good decisions about alcohol and drugs. The programme is targeting parents and their children aged 12 – 16 years.
Programme Delivery
The SFP is delivered over 14 weeks where three classes are run:
-
Parent skills training -
Teen skills training -
Family life skills training
All the groups are run by facilitators who have trained in SFP and have experience of working with children and families. The group meets for two and a half hours once a week. Families will meet for the first half hour for a hot meal and socialize with group leaders and other members of the group. For the first hour families will separate into two groups: (1) Parents/Caregivers and (2) Teens. In the second hour, families will join together to discuss skills as a whole group.
