FOSTERING AWERENESS WEEK 4th-8th March 2024 – Growing Hope, Fostering the Future

                                                        Fostering Awareness Week 4th – 8th March 2024

Growing Hope, Fostering the Future

This year’s fostering awareness week takes place from the 4th – 8th March 2024.  This year’s theme ‘Growing Hope, Fostering the Future’ seeks to highlight the hugely impactful and positive role a foster care placement can have in a child or young person’s life.

A foster carer can be like a ‘circuit breaker’ in the life of a child who is experiencing adversity, providing them with the opportunity to have a safe and nurturing environment, strengthening their roots to grow and develop – a sense of place, inclusion and connection with community.

The adage ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ can be very true in Ireland’s fostering community. Support of peers and other foster carers is invaluable and makes not just the carer’s fostering journey easier, but the child’s too. We know the importance of support expands beyond the home to the many individuals who play an important role in a child or young person’s life. Their coach, teacher, social work team. These all form part of the community, the collective response to children who need our support.

This year, Fostering Awareness Week seeks to celebrate the role of foster carers in Ireland, and how all those working with children throughout our communities can be part of the whole, as with the branches of a tree, collectively contributing to growing hope and fostering the future for children in care.
